Northern Ireland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1921, when Ireland was divided between Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. Northern Ireland is the northern part of the island of Ireland and the largest city in the country is the capital Belfast.
Northern Ireland has many places of interest, of which the Giant's Causeway is probably the best known. This is a rock formation on the northeast coast of the country consisting of about 40,000 basalt columns. It is the only registration of Northern Ireland on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Another famous sight is the Mussenden temple, a temple built on cliffs near Castlerock.
The Armagh Museum, Ulster Museum, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum and the Ulster American Folk Park have been administered by the National Museums and Galleries of Northern Ireland.
