Kanazawa is a historic city on the west coast of Japan's main island of Honshu, in Ishikawa Prefecture. The city successfully preserved much of its cultural heritage, having been spared from major destruction during World War II. It was once the seat of the powerful Maeda Clan during the Edo Period, and this rich history is reflected in its well-preserved samurai districts, traditional gardens, and craft traditions.

Kanazawa is particularly renowned for its traditional arts and crafts, including gold leaf production, Kutani pottery, and silk dyeing. The city maintains a strong cultural presence through its numerous museums, historic districts, and the famous Kenroku-en, one of Japan's three great gardens. The local art scene continues to evolve with contemporary additions like the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, while traditional crafts and cultural practices remain integral to the city's identity.
