Heiden is a picturesque municipality in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland. Located at an elevation of about 806 meters above sea level, the town offers panoramic views over Lake Constance and the surrounding Alpine landscape.

The town gained prominence in the 19th century as a health resort, particularly due to its mild climate and clean air. It is notably associated with Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross, who spent the last 23 years of his life here and died in Heiden in 1910. Today, the Henry Dunant Museum preserves his legacy and documents the history of humanitarian aid.

The town maintains its historical architecture, characterized by traditional Appenzell-style buildings, and continues to blend its cultural heritage with modern development.
