Fort Hunt is a historic area located in Fairfax County, Virginia, along the Potomac River. Originally established as a coastal defense site in 1897, Fort Hunt played significant roles throughout American military history.
During World War II, the fort served as a secret military intelligence facility known as P.O. Box 1142, where American forces interrogated high-value German prisoners of war and conducted classified operations.
Today, Fort Hunt is part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway and is managed by the National Park Service. The area features recreational facilities, picnic grounds, and historical remnants that provide visitors with glimpses into its military past. The surrounding community of Fort Hunt has developed into a primarily residential area while maintaining strong connections to its historical roots.
