Ferragudo is a traditional fishing village located in the Algarve region of southern Portugal, situated at the mouth of the Arade River opposite the town of Portimão. This charming coastal settlement maintains much of its authentic Portuguese character with its whitewashed houses cascading down the hillside towards the harbor.
The village's history is closely tied to its maritime heritage, with fishing still playing a role in local life today. The community is centered around the main square, Praça Rainha Dona Leonor, and is overlooked by the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição church. While smaller than some of its neighboring towns, Ferragudo offers cultural insights into traditional Algarvian life, local crafts, and coastal traditions.
