College Point is a residential and commercial neighborhood located in the borough of Queens, New York City. Situated on a peninsula jutting into the East River, the area was originally named for St. Paul's College, which was planned to be built in the 1830s but never materialized. Despite this, the name stuck.
The neighborhood has a rich industrial heritage, having been home to various manufacturing facilities throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, including rubber plants and breweries. Today, College Point maintains its distinct character as a somewhat isolated Queens neighborhood, featuring a mix of residential areas, small businesses, and waterfront properties. The community has several parks and recreational areas, including Powell's Cove Park and MacNeil Park, which offer views of the East River and Long Island Sound.
