Zoo Santo Inácio, the largest zoo in northern Portugal, is situated in Avintes, Vila Nova de Gaia. Since its inauguration in 2000, it has become home to over 700 animals from 250 different species. This diverse collection of wildlife offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience a wide range of animals in one location.
Zoo Santo Inácio is an active participant in over 40 European Conservation Programs for Endangered Species, in partnership with the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). This includes efforts to conserve species such as Asian lions, snow leopards, Humboldt penguins, cheetahs, Asian camels, and pygmy hippos. Visitors can learn about these conservation efforts and see these endangered species up close.
