Woodchester Villa, also referred to as The Bird House, is a unique historic octagon house. It is situated at 15 King Street, offering a picturesque view of the Muskoka River in Bracebridge, Ontario. This distinctive structure provides a glimpse into the architectural style of the late 19th century and is a significant part of the town's history.
Woodchester Villa was opened as a local history museum on June 22, 1980. However, it had to close in 2009 due to damage caused by a winter storm. In 2012, a series of restorations began, which included upgrades to both the grounds and the building. After careful consideration, the villa was reopened in June 2018 under the name 'Woodchester, Where Events Take Shape'. The building is now available for meetings, private functions, and events, offering a unique venue with a historical backdrop.
Woodchester Villa is protected by an Ontario Heritage Trust heritage conservation easement. It is also subject to a municipal heritage designation by the Town of Bracebridge. These protections ensure the preservation of the villa's historical and architectural significance for future generations.
