This water-powered corn mill was first recorded in the Domesday survey of 1086. Rebuilt in 1744, it remained in use until the turn of the last century and has now been restored to full working order. The waterwheel and machinery turn daily throughout the season. It includes mill-races, hands-on activities for children, a video presentation and displays about the River Itchen and its wildlife.

Winchester City Mill is a well-preserved historic watermill located in the heart of Winchester, England. This working mill offers visitors a chance to see traditional milling techniques in action. The mill's history dates back over a thousand years, making it a significant piece of Winchester's heritage.
Visitors often appreciate the hands-on experience offered at the mill. You can watch the water wheel in motion and see how grain is ground into flour using traditional methods. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are frequently praised for their informative talks and demonstrations, which bring the milling process to life.
The location of the mill, straddling the River Itchen, is picturesque and adds to its charm. Many visitors enjoy the peaceful riverside setting and the opportunity to spot local wildlife, including otters and water voles.
The mill also houses exhibits that detail its long history and importance to the local community. These displays provide context and deepen visitors' understanding of the site's significance.
While generally well-received, some visitors note that the mill is relatively small and can be explored quite quickly. This might leave some feeling that the experience is a bit brief for the admission price. Additionally, access can be challenging for those with mobility issues due to the nature of the historic building.
The on-site shop, which sells flour milled at the premises and other local products, is a popular feature. However, a few visitors mention that they would appreciate more variety in the items available for purchase.

Its combination of working machinery, historic significance, and beautiful setting makes it a worthwhile stop for those interested in traditional crafts and local history.
