The Wild Center, previously known as the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks, is a natural history center located in Tupper Lake, New York. It is situated near the heart of New York state's Adirondack Park. This location offers a unique blend of indoor and outdoor experiences, making it an interesting destination for those interested in natural history and the great outdoors.

The Wild Walk Experience

In 2015, the center opened the Wild Walk, an elevated walkway consisting of a thousand feet of bridges and platforms that rise above and traverse the forest on the center's campus. This unique feature allows visitors to experience the forest from a new perspective, offering a bird's eye view of the surrounding natural beauty.

Indoor Exhibits at The Wild Center

Apart from the outdoor experiences, the center also houses five primary indoor exhibit areas. One of these is The Pataki Hall of the Adirondacks, which features The Living River Trail. This trail circles the hall and includes live animal exhibits and a waterfall inhabited by the center's live otters. This offers visitors an immersive experience of the local wildlife.

Outdoor Activities at The Wild Center

The center also features outdoor exhibits that immerse visitors in the surrounding ecosystems. Canoe trips are available on the river that runs through the center's campus, providing a unique way to explore the area. Additionally, daily guided trail walks are offered, with snow shoes provided during the winter months. These activities offer a hands-on experience of the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Adirondacks.

The Wild Center in Tupper Lake is a natural history museum that offers visitors an immersive experience in the Adirondack ecosystem. Many visitors appreciate the interactive exhibits and the opportunity to learn about local wildlife and nature. The Wild Walk, an elevated trail through the treetops, is often highlighted as a standout feature, providing a unique perspective of the forest canopy. The center's commitment to environmental education is evident in its various programs and displays.

Visitors generally find the staff knowledgeable and friendly, enhancing the overall experience. The live animal exhibits, including otters and birds of prey, are popular among guests of all ages. The museum's focus on sustainability and conservation resonates with many visitors, who appreciate the emphasis on local ecology and environmental stewardship.

However, some visitors mention that the center can get crowded during peak seasons, which may affect the experience. A few reviewers note that the admission price is somewhat high, especially for larger families. Some also feel that certain areas of the museum could benefit from updates or expansions to maintain interest for repeat visitors.

Despite these minor criticisms, the majority of visitors find the Wild Center to be an educational and enjoyable experience, suitable for both adults and children. The combination of indoor exhibits and outdoor activities provides a well-rounded exploration of the Adirondack region's natural history.
