The Jonathan Bailey House, previously referred to as 'The Old Ranch House', is a significant historical site in Whittier, California. Constructed around the years 1868–1869, the house was built by Jacob Gerkens. This historic site offers a glimpse into the architectural style and living conditions of the late 19th century.
The Bailey House was once the residence of Quakers Jonathan Bailey and his wife, Rebecca. Interestingly, the first Quaker meetings in the area were held on the front porch of this house. This fact adds a layer of historical and cultural significance to the site, making it a point of interest for those keen on understanding the religious history of the area.
In 1975, the Jonathan Bailey House was transferred to the City of Whittier and currently functions as a museum. The Whittier Historical Society operates the museum, while the City of Whittier Park Department maintains it with the assistance of volunteers. This collaboration ensures the preservation and accessibility of this historical site for visitors.
