The Weygang-Museum in Öhringen is a city history and folklore museum that houses one of the world's most extensive collections of pewter utensils. This collection was bequeathed to the city by the childless pewter caster and manufacturer August Weygang. The museum offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich history of pewter casting and its significance in the region's cultural heritage.
The collections at the Weygang-Museum include a variety of pewter products from the religious sector, including Protestant and Catholic church pewter, as well as Jewish religious objects. Additionally, the museum showcases items from the guild system, such as guild cups, jugs, door and table signs. These collections provide a fascinating insight into the historical use of pewter in different sectors of society.
The Weygang-Museum is home to the oldest still producing pewter foundry in Germany, located in an annex behind the residential building. This was the former workshop of August Weygang. Visitors to the museum have the unique opportunity to witness monthly demonstrations of pewter casting, offering a hands-on experience of this traditional craft.
