Wegelate Sage and its collection

Wegelate Sage
Source

The Wegelate Säge open-air museum is situated in the Unterstalleralm area of the Ahrntal, within the municipality of Innervillgraten in East Tyrol. The museum is currently under construction, which may affect the visitor experience. However, it still offers a unique opportunity to witness the development of a cultural site.

Historical Significance of the Sawmill

The sawmill at the Wegelate Säge open-air museum is the last of eight water-powered sawmills that once operated in Innervillgraten. Situated on the Arntalbach, the upper course of the Villgratenbach, the sawmill has been restored twice, first in 1992/1993 and again in 2021/2022. The initial restoration earned it the Europa-Nostra Prize and the Henry Ford European Conservation Award, testifying to its historical and cultural significance.
