Wannalancit Mills and its collection

Wannalancit Mills
Source

The Wannalancit Mills, previously known as the Suffolk Mills, are located in Lowell, Massachusetts. This early American cotton mill has parts that date back to the 1830s, making it a significant historical site. The mill's name is derived from Wonalancet, a leader of the Penacook Native American tribe.

The Mill's Christmas Tree Tradition

In 2000, the mill's smokestack was transformed into the city's largest Christmas tree, reaching a height of 256 feet. The annual lighting costs are approximately $30,000. In 2010, the 'tree' was not erected due to the high costs of lighting. However, since that year, the lighting has made a comeback.
