The Violeta Parra Museum in San Carlos, Chile, is a cultural institution dedicated to the life and work of Violeta Parra. It is located in the city of San Carlos, in the province of Punilla, in the Ñuble Region. The museum aims to share and disseminate the legacy left by the singer-songwriter over the years.
In 1992, the house was declared a national monument by the National Monuments Council. This decision was made after the institution had settled the debate over whether Violeta Parra was born in San Carlos or San Fabián de Alico through official civil registry documentation, which confirmed that the singer was born in this house.
The museum was inaugurated in 2016, following the restoration of the house by the Ministry of Public Works in 2015. The restoration preserved the facade of the building and refurbished the interior with new rooms and a mural in the courtyard, created by artisans from Quinchamalí and directed by designer Militza Agusti.
The Violeta Parra Museum is open to the public and aims to provide a closer appreciation of the artistic trajectory of the world-renowned Chilean singer. In addition to showcasing Parra's work, the museum also promotes cultures and arts through various projects, initiatives, and activities, creating a place for encounters and moments with the community in line with the vision of singer and writer Violeta Parra Sandoval.
