The Urzeitmuseum Nußdorf ob der Traisen is housed in the architectural remains of the former Nußdorf ob der Traisen castle. This castle was demolished between 1860 and 1864, but some parts of it, including a large cellar building, have been preserved and now serve as the museum's premises.
Opened in 1993, the Urzeitmuseum Nußdorf ob der Traisen showcases a rich collection of artifacts, primarily from the Bronze Age. These artifacts were discovered during excavations conducted by the Federal Monuments Office in the Lower Traisental region.
The oldest exhibit in the Urzeitmuseum Nußdorf ob der Traisen is a mammoth tusk. Measuring 3.3 meters in length, it is the largest mammoth tusk ever discovered in Lower Austria.
