Uffington Museum was originally a school for boys built in 1617 & became a museum in 1984. Located in the picturesque village of Uffington, the museum features exhibits on Thomas Hughes who wrote Tom Brown's Schooldays & Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman who lived in the village. The permanent exhibitions feature the history of the 3,000 year old White Horse & surrounding areas such as Wayland's Smithy & the Ridgeway, together with a mock Victorian Schoolroom and artefacts donated by local residents. The 2025 exhibition celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of the author Jane Austen and her links to the Vale of White Horse.
