The University of California, Riverside, Botanic Gardens is a sprawling 40-acre botanical garden that is home to a diverse collection of over 3,500 species of plants from all corners of the globe. This vast collection provides a unique opportunity for visitors to explore and learn about a wide variety of plant species in one location.

Exploring the Garden's Trails

Located on the eastern part of the Box Springs Mountain on the campus of the University of California, Riverside, the botanical garden offers four miles of trails that wind through various microclimates and undulating terrain. This allows visitors to experience a range of different environments and landscapes as they explore the garden.

Wildlife in the Garden

In addition to its diverse collection of plants, the garden is also home to a wide variety of wildlife. It hosts 195 species of birds and numerous mammals, including the California ground squirrel, Audubon cottontails, kangaroo rats, gophers, coyotes, gray fox, marsupials, desert woodrat, skunks, and bobcat. The garden is also inhabited by a variety of reptiles, including lizards and numerous species of snakes, from the San Diego gopher snake to venomous rattlesnakes.
