The United States Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) is a significant addition to the United States Capitol. It serves as a meeting point and extension area for the US Congress, accommodating more than 4,000 tourists per day. The CVC is located beneath the east side of the Capitol, between the Capitol and 1st Street East, covering an area of 54,000 square meters spread over three underground floors.

Visitor Experience at the CVC

The CVC provides visitors with a safe, accessible, and educational place to wait for the start of their tour of the Capitol. It can be freely explored by visitors and houses an exhibition hall, two gift shops, and a food court with 530 seats. The tours of the CVC and the Capitol are free of charge and can be pre-booked online.

Emancipation Hall at the CVC

The Emancipation Hall is the main hall of the CVC, covering an area of 1,900 square meters. It features two large skylights that offer a unique view of the Capitol's dome. The hall also houses the original plaster model of the Statue of Freedom, with the bronze statue standing on top of the Capitol's dome.
