Source

The Wool House, located in Southampton, Hampshire, England, is a medieval building with a rich history. It was originally constructed to facilitate the wool trade, a significant industry during the medieval period. This historical significance adds a unique charm to the building, making it an interesting site for tourists to explore.

The Wool House as a Museum

The Wool House was restored by the Southampton City Corporation and was adapted to house the Southampton Maritime Museum. The museum, which opened in June 1966, was dedicated to documenting the maritime heritage of Southampton and the Solent area. Although the museum moved to the SeaCity Museum in January 2012, the building's history as a museum adds to its cultural significance.

The Wool House as a Brewpub/Restaurant

In 2014, plans were approved to transform The Wool House into a microbrewery and pub by the Dancing Man Brewery. The building reopened on 27 February 2015 as a brewpub/restaurant. This current use of the building offers tourists a unique opportunity to enjoy local brews and cuisine in a historical setting.

We had a great time exploring the Tudor house and gardens. The young man who worked there was also a complete star! He took us up to the attic and gave us our own personal tour. Couldn’t have asked for better service and he definitely had a lot of knowledge of the Tudor period.

Would definitely recommend a visit if anyone is in Southampton.
