The Troy Historic Village, situated in the city of Troy, Michigan, offers a unique glimpse into the lifestyle of the inhabitants of Troy Township during the 1800s. The village features a variety of carefully restored buildings that reflect the architectural and cultural heritage of the time. Visitors can explore the main building, a log cabin, a Greek Revival Home, a brick one-room school, print shop, wagon shop, a town hall, a general store, and a turn of the century church and parsonage.

The Main Building: City Hall

The main building of the Troy Historic Village, originally known as Troy Township and later renamed as the city hall, is a significant architectural landmark. It was designed by the architect J. Bissell in 1927 and was modeled after a Dutch colonial tavern in Troy, New York. The building was remodeled under the leadership of township supervisor Morris Wattles, and the museum opened inside the building in 1966.

The Log Cabin

The Log Cabin at the Troy Historic Village is a one-room home that provides a vivid depiction of the life of a pioneer in the 1840s. The cabin features a fireplace that was used for heat and cooking, a bed made of rope where the parents slept, and a loft where the children slept on straw mattresses covered with quilts. This exhibit offers a tangible experience of the living conditions and daily life of the pioneers.

This open-air museum features a collection of relocated and restored 19th and early 20th-century buildings, providing an educational experience about local history. Visitors appreciate the well-preserved structures, including a one-room schoolhouse, church, general store, and various homes. The museum's staff and volunteers are often praised for their knowledge and enthusiasm, offering guided tours and demonstrations that bring history to life. Many reviewers highlight the engaging hands-on activities and educational programs, especially those designed for children and school groups.
