The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, located in Oslo, Norway, was established in 2003. It is a result of the merger of five institutions: the National Gallery of Oslo, founded in 1836, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, in 1876, the Riksutstillinger (1953), the National Museum of Architecture (1975) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (1988).
The museum is situated near the site of the former Oslo-West railway station, providing views of the Aker Brygge dock. This location is a popular tourist area in Oslo and is in close proximity to the Nobel Peace Center.
The museum spans three floors and includes more than 90 rooms. The first and second floors are dedicated to the permanent collections, while the third floor, known as the Bright Room, is a large 2400 m2 space that hosts temporary exhibitions.
