What a lovely place! I didn’t get round to filling out the visitor review form while we were there, so I’ll leave a few notes here. This is a largely volunteer run museum and is an absolute delight. We were lucky enough to get a ride on the steam launch ‘Falcon’ , once property of the Lacon family: Gt. Yarmouth brewers, who’s emblem was a falcon. The two guides / crew were extremely knowledgeable both about the boat and the Broads flora and fauna. Their enthusiasm was palpable, though they were in no way ‘nerdy’. Some of the exhibits looked a little tired, but that’s forgivable given how much there is to be looked after. The other highlight for me was the excellent film presentation- a 1980s compilation from the East Anglian Film Archive. This is no top flight national museum by any means, but is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, especially if you can get a trip on The Falcon!

I did not quite know what to expect for 0ur party of 3 visit suggested by our son. We were pleasantly welcomed by our front desk hosts and felt immediately cheered as we arrived at morning coffee time .We were able to take in info in our coffee break and then free to wander around all the various outbuildings where we learnt about the history and value of the Broads and the people who worked and lived there. Nice and relaxed with experts on hand to inform as required culminating in a chat on the Wherry Albion.(so impressed bought a Polo Shirt!) Much recommended.
