The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier and its collection

The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier welcomes children of all ages and abilities and their families to come play with us! Established in 1984, this 22,500 square foot space houses exhibits designed to be touched, examined, played with, and experienced up close by our visitors. Exhibits offer places for hands-on play as well as information. Children can shop for groceries in our Weis, change a tire in Matty's Garage, see what it would be like to fly a helicopter in Take Flight, or take care of furry friends in Pet Vet. In our Sports Matter exhibit, visitors can try their hand at golf, use the sports simulator, or try our fishing pond, all while learning about the history of Dick's Sporting Goods. We also offer a fire truck and a real ambulance. Visit the Story Garden to learn and explore outside. Special events and activities are often available, and more information about the dates and times of special events will be posted on the museum website and our Facebook page.

The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier in Binghamton, United States, is a popular children's museum that offers hands-on learning experiences. Visitors appreciate the variety of interactive exhibits that engage children in science, technology, and creative play. The museum's strength lies in its ability to combine education with entertainment, making it an enjoyable destination for families.

Many reviewers mention the museum's spacious layout and the diverse range of activities available, from a mock grocery store to a water play area. The outdoor Story Garden is often highlighted as a unique feature, providing additional space for exploration and imagination. Parents and caregivers generally find the center well-maintained and clean, which adds to the overall positive experience.

However, some visitors note that certain exhibits could benefit from updates or repairs. A few reviewers mention that older children (above 10) might find some activities less engaging. Additionally, there are occasional comments about the admission price being a bit high for shorter visits.

Despite these minor critiques, the majority of visitors find The Discovery Center to be a valuable resource for the community, offering a safe and stimulating environment for children to learn through play. The staff is generally described as friendly and helpful, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.

Overall, The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier provides an educational and fun experience for young children and families, with room for some improvements to maintain its appeal across a wider age range.
