The Contemporary Museum for Northern Peoples, located in Gáivuotna/Kåfjord, was officially inaugurated on July 21, 2011 by Culture Minister Anniken Huitfeldt. This museum is a significant cultural institution that documents and communicates the cultural expressions and regional Sami culture and history of the northern peoples.
The museum's main focus is on documenting and communicating the cultural expressions and regional Sami culture and history of the northern peoples. This is done through temporary art and theme exhibitions, as well as a basic exhibition that communicates regional Sami culture and history.
In addition to its exhibitions, the museum also hosts a variety of cultural events and services. These include the Riddu Riđđu festival, the Sami Language Center, the Sami Library Service, a local office for NRK Sameradio, the Sami Parliament, and the North-Troms Museum.
