The Contemporary Dayton, previously known as the Dayton Visual Arts Center (DVAC), is a non-profit art gallery and resource for artists that has been serving the community since 1991. It was established by a coalition of local artists, art supporters, and visual arts professionals who recognized the need for increased interaction between the public and regional artists. They believed that a vibrant visual arts community is crucial to the life of the community in Dayton, Ohio.
The center offers a variety of programs including art gallery talks, art exhibitions, professional development workshops, and other initiatives that support contemporary visual art. The Co's gallery, located in downtown Dayton, hosts a full schedule of contemporary art exhibitions each year, all of which are free to the public. This makes it an accessible and engaging destination for those interested in contemporary visual art.
The Contemporary Dayton, previously known as the Dayton Visual Arts Center, has officially announced plans to complete their capital campaign and relocate to the historic Dayton Arcade. This move will allow The Co to nearly double its space, attract more artists to Dayton, and make a strong commitment to present exhibitions and programs that explore the most pressing social justice issues of our time.
