The Bell Tower and its collection

The Bell Tower
Source

The Bell Tower, also known as the Swan Bell Tower, is a unique landmark in Perth, Western Australia. It houses the Swan Bells, a set of 18 bells that hang in a specially built 82.5 metre copper and glass campanile. This architectural marvel offers a unique experience for visitors, with the opportunity to see and hear the second largest set of change ringing bells in the world.

Historic and Modern Bells

The Swan Bells at the Bell Tower are not just any bells. Twelve of them are historic bells from the St Martin-in-the-Fields church in Trafalgar Square in London. The remaining six were cast in recent times by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. This combination of old and new bells creates a unique sound and adds to the historical significance of the Bell Tower.

Barrack Square and Surroundings

The Bell Tower is surrounded by the redeveloped Barrack Square along Barrack Street precinct. This area includes reflection pools and a variety of amenities such as cafes, restaurants, and shops. There are also cycling and walking paths for those who wish to explore the area on foot or by bike.

The Bell Tower Reviews

The Bell Tower has 1 rating.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

The Bell Tower in Perth, Australia offers visitors a mix of historical significance and panoramic city views. Located on Riverside Drive overlooking the Swan River, this 82.5-meter-tall tower houses the Swan Bells, including twelve bells from London's St Martin-in-the-Fields church. Visitors can observe the bell-ringing demonstrations and learn about the history of these centuries-old bells. The observation deck provides 360-degree views of Perth's skyline, the river, and surrounding areas, which many find impressive. However, some visitors feel the experience is overpriced for the relatively short duration of the visit. The interactive displays about the bells and their history receive mixed reviews, with some finding them informative while others consider them limited. The gift shop offers bell-themed souvenirs, but the selection and prices are occasionally criticized. Overall, The Bell Tower provides a unique cultural experience in Perth, but opinions vary on whether it offers good value for money.
