The Texas Fashion Collection, located on the University of North Texas campus in Denton, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and documenting historically significant fashion. Operated by the University through its College of Visual Arts and Design, the collection serves as an educational resource for students, researchers, and the general public.
The Texas Fashion Collection has a rich history that dates back to 1938. It was renamed as such in the 1980s and has since been housed in various locations on the UNT campus. In 1993, the University renovated Scoular Hall to consolidate the collection into a 3700 square foot climate-controlled space, providing a more suitable environment for the preservation of these historic fashion pieces.
The Texas Fashion Collection boasts an impressive growth, from 3,000 to over 18,000 historic items. The collection features designs from renowned fashion figures such as Cristóbal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy, Oscar de la Renta, Todd Oldham, Hanae Mori, James Galanos, and Norman Norell, making it a significant resource for those interested in fashion history.
