The Strand Theater, which is now known as the Strand Center Theatre, is a historic theater situated in Plattsburgh, Clinton County, New York. This theater was built in 1924 and was considered the premier theater in Plattsburgh at the time. It was designed in the Classical Revival style, which is a style that was popular during the 19th century. The theater has a seating capacity of 950 people and was in continuous use as a movie theater until 2005.
In 2005, the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts (NCCCA) purchased the Strand Center Theatre with the aim of restoring it to its historic grandeur. The restoration process was a significant undertaking that took 10 years and $4 million to complete. The result is a beautifully restored theater that maintains its historic charm while also offering modern amenities.
The Strand Center Theatre was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. This recognition is a testament to the theater's historical significance and its contribution to the cultural heritage of Plattsburgh. Visitors to the theater can appreciate not only the performances but also the historical architecture and the story it tells about the past.
