The Stevens-Coolidge Place, previously known as Ashdale Farm, is a nature reserve that spans across 91 acres. It is located in the city of North Andover, in the state of Massachusetts, United States. This vast area is managed by The Trustees of Reservations, an organization dedicated to preserving and maintaining historical and natural sites.
The main house at The Stevens-Coolidge Place is a unique architectural marvel. It consists of two individual houses that were built side by side and interconnected. These houses were constructed in the early 19th century by the grandparents of Helen Coolidge. In the 1850s, the houses underwent a significant remodel, adopting the Italianate style, which was popular during that period.
In 1914, the property underwent another significant transformation to fit the trend of Colonial Revival architecture. The architect responsible for this transformation was Joseph Chandler. He incorporated various design elements of Georgian and Federal architecture, including dormer windows and arched windows. These additions improved access to air and light, increased living space, and visually tied the interior of the house to the exterior facilities.
