Stein skole, also known as the 'Fairy Tale School', is a small school building located in Nes, Akershus. Today, it serves as a museum and exhibition space, managed by the Akershus Museum. This unique institution offers visitors a chance to step back in time and explore the rich history and artistic heritage of the school.
In the 1930s, Stein skole was adorned by renowned Norwegian artists such as Reidar Aulie, Dagfinn Werenskiold, Henrik Sørensen, Birgit Abrahamsen, Harald Dal, Ørnulf Bast, and Per Teigen. Their artistic contributions transformed the school building into a vibrant and imaginative setting, enhancing the educational experience for students of that era.
One of the highlights of the Stein skolemuseum is the large oil painting 'I natt red'n Henrik forbi'. This artwork, inspired by Ingeborg Refling Hagen's poem of the same name, covers the entire back wall of one of the classrooms. It depicts Henrik Wergeland on his horse Vesle-Brunen, scattering flowers and seeds behind him.
