Visitors generally appreciate the museum's diverse range of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and prints from various artistic movements.
The museum's strengths lie in its collection of Old Master paintings, particularly works from the 14th to 16th centuries, as well as its impressive array of modern and contemporary art. Many reviewers highlight the museum's architecture, which combines a historic building with a modern extension designed by James Stirling, creating an interesting visual contrast.
Positive aspects frequently mentioned include the well-curated exhibitions, the logical layout of the galleries, and the informative descriptions accompanying the artworks. The museum's temporary exhibitions are often praised for their quality and interesting themes.
However, some visitors note that the museum can feel overwhelming due to its size and extensive collection. A few reviews mention that some areas of the museum could benefit from better lighting to enhance the viewing experience. Additionally, some international visitors have commented on the limited availability of English translations for some exhibits.
The museum's cafe and gift shop receive mixed reviews, with some visitors finding them satisfactory while others feel they could be improved.

During my recent return visit to Stuttgart,I spent two fascinating days appreciating fine European Paintings and Art at this large art museum. This review describes its fine, but not encyclopedic collection of Italian Paintings and Art from the 14th Century to the 20th Century. At the Staatsgallerie in Stuttgart,I saw fine 14th Century paintings by the Master of the Chapelle Medici Polytych("Painted Cross with Christ, the Virgin,John the Evangelist, the Pelican"),Master of the Augustus Vision("Emperor Augustus and the Tiburtine Prophesy Sibyl"),Spinello Aretino("Enthroned Madonna"),Bernardo Daddi("Fragment from Crucifixion Group"),and Niccolo Da Segna("Saints Catherine,Margaret, and Mary Magdalene").All of these paintings. employed egg tempera on wood panel From the 15th Century,I especially relished Lorenzo Monaco's"Madonna and Christ Child",Inernational Gothic Painting),.Fra Angelico's"Miraculous Feeding of the Dominicans",and Giovanni Dei Paolo's"Saint Christopher". 16th Century Italian Paintings that especially captivated me were Bacchiacca's"Holy Family",Vittore Carpaccio's"Martrdom of Saint Stephan",Giovanni Bellini and Workshop's"Madonna and Christ Child",and Jacopo Tintoretto's"Portrait of A Man". I saw fine exemplars of Italian Mannerism of the 17th Century by Francesco Furini(,*Penitent Mary Magdalene"),Giovanni Bilivert("Apollo and Daphne"),and Pietro Della Vecchia's"Tribute Money". As for 18th Century Italian Paintings, favorites of mine were Giovanni Batista Tiepolo's"Rest on Flight to Egypt",Gaspard Traversi's"Operation",and Giovanni Pannini'"Roma Antica",a metulously painted depiction of a NeoClassical Period Art Gallery. Finally from the 20th Century,I saw delightful paintings by Amadeo Modigliani("Reclining Nude",somewhat sensuous painting)and Giorgio di Chirico("Metaphysical Interior".This art museum has a special ambience..I also found the staff of the Staatsgallerie Stuttgart to be very professional and helpful.
