The Städel Museum (Städelsches Kunstinstitut und Städtische Galerie) is a museum in Frankfurt with one of the most important art collections in Germany. The museum holds around 2,700 paintings of which 600 are on display in the museum, a collection of graphic work (100,000 drawings and graphics) and 600 sculptures. The museum has an exhibition area of around 4,000 m², as well as a library with approximately 100,000 books. The collection shows masterpieces of European art from seven centuries, starting with the early 14th century, through the Gothic art period, Renaissance, Baroque, Goethe period and the 19th century to the present time.

    Frankfurt has many great museums, but the Städel Museum was our favourite museum in Frankfurt with great paintings from the 16th till the 20th century. Really world class. The temporary exhibition was also nice. A visit may take several hours, but you won’t regret it!
