The Stadtmuseum Rapperswil-Jona, founded in 1943, is located in the Breny House and its corresponding tower. This museum is situated in the heart of the old town of Rapperswil, a part of the Swiss municipality of Rapperswil-Jona in the canton of St. Gallen. The museum is a significant part of the local history and culture, making it a point of interest for tourists.
The Stadtmuseum Rapperswil-Jona's exhibition was updated according to the latest findings and is now open to visitors all year round. The museum's collection primarily focuses on prehistoric and Roman excavation finds from the lake area and especially from the extensive excavations at Kempraten, the former Roman settlement Centum Prata. These exhibits, along with changing exhibitions, offer a rich insight into the region's history.
The newly constructed intermediate tract of the Stadtmuseum Rapperswil-Jona houses the redesigned entrance area and changing exhibitions. It also features a city model that provides an overall view of Rapperswil around 1800, information on city history and city fortifications, and examples of medieval Rapperswil crafts. These include weapons, pharmacy items, a shoemaker's workshop, and oven ceramics, all located in the adjoining Breny House.
