Location and History of the Stadtmuseum
The Stadtmuseum is centrally located at Museumsplatz 1, housed in the building of the former correctional and orphanage house. This historic building, which dates back to the years 1724 to 1738, adds to the unique charm and appeal of the museum. It was initially built on the site of the Marienhospital, first mentioned in 1445 and burned down in 1639.
Permanent Exhibition at the Stadtmuseum
The Stadtmuseum offers a permanent exhibition titled "Romantic Gera". This exhibition provides a journey through Gera's history from the first settlement to the 21st century. Spread over four floors and covering approximately 1000 square meters, visitors can explore the city's history in a comprehensive and modern format.
