The Spreewehrmühle is a historic water mill located in the city of Cottbus, Brandenburg, right next to the Großen Spreewehr and near the branching Hammergraben. This mill is in the district of Saspow, bordering Sandow. Its unique location and historical significance make it an interesting site for tourists.
The Spreewehrmühle has a rich history dating back to 1797 when it was built as a water-powered oil and grist mill. It was operational until 1831. Later, in 1867, Christian Löcher was granted permission to operate a tavern in the building, adding another layer to its historical significance.
The Spreewehrmühle is not just a historical site, but also an object of technical-historical value. In 1960, the Institute for Monument Conservation classified its water wheel as unique in the GDR. Recognizing its importance, the mill was placed under monument protection in 1985, further emphasizing its significance.
