The Soul of Africa Museum (SOA) is a museum of African art in Essen. The focus of the museum is on voodoo, healing and the veneration of the dead in West Africa. Owner and curator of the museum is the ethnologist, photojournalist and filmmaker Henning Christoph. The collection of the museum includes costumes that are worn in the cult of Yoruba by the Egungun, the masked dancers, and symbolize the ancestors. Also on display is an original 'Asen altar' of the Fon for its dead, as well as 'Bocios', carved, enigmatic figures.
