The gallery houses a collection of both classical and modern art from various countries. The displays are organized according to countries and periods. Highlights of the permanent exhibition include Velazquez's Old Woman Frying Eggs and Gauguin's Vision après le Sermon.

The Scottish National Gallery displays a nice collection of European art over the centuries focusing on Scottish artists. All in all I think we spent 2 hours in this museum and liked it a lot. We also liked the descriptions of the artworks, making the visit more interesting. The Staff of the museum was also helpful and super friendly. All in all very interesting!
