The Schofield House, also known as the Lanier-Schofield House, is a historic building situated in the Madison Historic District of Madison, Indiana. This Federal-style building, built in 1817, holds significant historical value as it was the first two-story brick house and the first tavern house in Madison.
In 1975, the Schofield House underwent restoration and was transformed into a Masonic museum. Today, the museum is maintained through the dues from Indiana Freemasons and donations. It serves as a testament to the rich history of Freemasonry in Indiana and offers visitors a glimpse into the past.
While the Schofield House is open to the public, it's important to note that there is an admission fee for all who are not Freemasons. This fee contributes to the maintenance and preservation of this historic site.
