The Sant Cugat Museum, which opened its doors on 23 April 2003, is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the historical, artistic, and cultural heritage of Sant Cugat del Vallรจs in Catalonia. As a visitor, you can explore the rich history and culture of the region through the museum's extensive collections and exhibitions.
The Sant Cugat Museum is part of the Barcelona Provincial Council Local Museum Network. It comprises two main centres, the Sant Cugat Monastery and Casa Aymat, as well as two additional buildings, the Celler Modernista and the Chapel of Sant Domenec. Each of these locations offers unique insights into the region's history and culture.
The Monastery of Sant Cugat, which was constructed between the 9th and 14th centuries, serves as the headquarters of the museum. It features an interpretation centre for medieval monasteries and a permanent exhibition that provides an in-depth look at monastery architecture, the monastic code of The Rule of Saint Benedict, and the evolution of the Sant Cugat Monastery from its founding in the 9th century to its secularisation in 1835.
