This triangular building was designed by Sir Thomas Tresham (father of one of the Gunpowder Plotters) and constructed between 1593 and 1597. It is a testament to Tresham's Roman Catholicism: the number three, symbolising the Holy Trinity, is apparent everywhere. There are three floors, trefoil windows and three triangular gables on each side.

Rushton Triangular Lodge is a small but intriguing historical site located in Rushton, England. This unusual three-sided building, constructed in the late 16th century, offers visitors a glimpse into Tudor architecture and symbolism. The lodge's design is filled with religious and numerical symbolism, particularly centered around the number three, which is evident in its triangular shape and various architectural elements.
Visitors appreciate the lodge's unique architecture and the opportunity to explore its exterior and interior. The intricate carvings and Latin inscriptions on the walls provide an interesting historical context, though some guests mention that a basic understanding of Tudor history enhances the experience. The compact size of the lodge means that a visit is typically brief, which some find disappointing, while others consider it perfect for a short stop.
The surrounding grounds offer a pleasant area for a picnic or a short walk, adding to the overall experience. However, some visitors note that the site's remote location can make it challenging to find, and parking facilities are limited.
While the Triangular Lodge doesn't offer extensive exhibits or interactive displays, it compensates with its architectural uniqueness and historical significance. Some visitors suggest that more on-site information or guided tours would enhance the educational aspect of the visit.
Overall, Rushton Triangular Lodge is a worthwhile destination for those interested in Tudor history, unusual architecture, or those looking for an off-the-beaten-path attraction in Northamptonshire. Its small scale and focused theme make it more suitable for history enthusiasts rather than those seeking a comprehensive museum experience.
