Teurnia, now in ruins, was once a bustling Roman city located in western Carinthia. In the late antiquity, it served as a bishop's see and was even mentioned as the capital of the province of Noricum mediterraneum. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of this ancient city and get a glimpse into its rich history.
In the village centre of St. Peter in Holz, visitors can explore the "Römer-Museum" which exhibits numerous artefacts from the city area of Teurnia. Nearby, the preserved remains of a Roman town villa, or villa urbana, can be seen, featuring a simple hypocaust in the form of the letter Y. These attractions offer a unique insight into the daily life and architecture of the ancient Romans.
Throughout the area, display cases provide information on the city's history and the ongoing excavation work. This allows visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the archaeological process and the historical context of the artefacts they are viewing.
