Roadside America was a unique indoor miniature village and railway that spanned an impressive 8,000 square feet. This intricate display was the brainchild of Laurence Gieringer, who brought it to life in 1935. The miniature village was a testament to Gieringer's creativity and attention to detail, offering visitors a chance to explore a scaled-down version of America.
To accommodate the growing interest in the miniature village, Gieringer purchased land at what would become the final location of the display. This location, a former dance hall in Shartlesville, Pennsylvania off of Interstate 78, provided ample space for the expanded display. The miniature village reopened to the public at this location in 1953.
Unfortunately, after being closed since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Roadside America announced in November 2020 that they were closing permanently. Despite efforts to find a buyer for the past three years, they were unsuccessful and decided to auction off the display.
