The Rinehart Stone House, built in 1872, was the first permanent building in Malheur County built by early pioneers Lewis and Amanda Glenn Rinehart. This rustic sandstone building was located on the Oregon Trail on land once owned by Jonathan Keeney, mountain man and ferry operator on the Snake and Malheur Rivers.

The Rinehart Stone House is a museum displaying period relics and photos, along with interpretative exhibits about the Oregon Trail.

Pioneer genealogy is even available for some families who settled in the nearby area of eastern Oregon.

The museum is conveniently located on historic Main Street South in downtown Vale.

The museum is free admission with donations accepted. Local volunteers maintain the museum which is open Tuesday through Saturday afternoons. Open season is May to October.
