The Reykjavik Art Museum, established in 1973, is Iceland's largest visual art institution. It is spread across three locations in Reykjavík: Hafnarhús by the old harbour, Kjarvalsstaðir by Klambratún, and Ásmundarsafn in Laugardalur. Each location offers a unique experience, showcasing different aspects of Icelandic art.
Ásmundarsafn, opened in 1983, is a part of the Reykjavik Art Museum dedicated to the sculptures and drawings of Ásmundur Sveinsson. The museum, which was once the artist's home and studio, exhibits Ásmundur's sculptures both indoors and outdoors. A sculpture garden, featuring works by the artist, surrounds the museum and is open to the public throughout the year.
