The Regional History Museum of Fouras, located in the historic heart of Fouras, has been recognized as a Museum of France since 2004. This seaside resort in Charente-Maritime is one of the most attractive in the region, making the museum a significant point of interest for visitors.

Historic Site of the Museum

The museum is housed in the semaphore, a historic site that was once the Fort Vauban or Donjon de Fouras. This old fortress played a crucial role in guarding the entrance to the Charente estuary, adding a layer of historical significance to the museum's location.

Exhibition Space and Themes

The Regional Museum of Fouras provides a thematic journey for visitors, tourists, and researchers. Spread over 600 m² of exhibition space, ten thematic rooms, and three floors of the old Fort Vauban, the museum offers five main themes. These themes allow visitors to explore the permanent collections on the history of the city and the evolution of the Charente coastline.
