Rattle and Snap, also known as the Polk-Granberry House or Oakwood Hall, is a plantation estate located at 1522 North Main Street in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. This mid-1840s mansion is one of the grandest expressions of the Greek Revival in Tennessee and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971. The house is privately owned but can be viewed by appointment.
The Rattle and Snap estate spans more than 500 acres and features a large two-story brick mansion as its centerpiece. The mansion is covered by a shallow hip roof and is L-shaped, with a long front facade covered by a stepped two-story colonnade. The interior of the house retains rich woodwork and plaster decorations in the Greek Revival style.
The Rattle and Snap plantation originally covered 5,648 acres and was built with slave labor. It is recognized as the largest and most extravagant mansion in Maury County. The mansion was built in 1845 by George Washington Polk, a relative of President James K. Polk, and was sold to Joseph Granberry in 1867.
