The museum houses railroad memorabilia and model trains in two historic buildings as well as full-size trains in the 3-acre rail yard. The main building, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015, was built in 1924 as the Santa Fe freight depot. It contains one of the largest known collections of dining car china plus an O-scale layout depicting the Campbell Brothers Circus, along with the museum's original HO and N-scale layouts. The second structure (we call it the Round Top) was constructed around 1950 and was used by the neighboring Gold Spot Dairy for storing and shipping its products. The Round Top, while belonging to the museum, is also the home of the Cherokee Strip Model Railroad Association, and contains their expansive HO-scale layout and large N-scale layout along with the museums older American Flyer and new G-scale layouts. The rail yard is home to the historic Frisco 4-8-2 locomotive #1519 along with a 50-ton diesel switch engine plus nine cabooses and more than a dozen freight cars. The Wanda Lee, an ex-Amtrak lounge car, is also in the yard.
