The Temple of the Sun, also known as Coricancha, Qorikancha, or Qoricancha, was the most sacred site in the Inca Empire. It is located in Cusco, a city that was the center of the Inca Empire. This site was of great importance to the Incas and was the location of significant ceremonies such as marriages, coronations, and funerals. The mummies of the Inca rulers were also kept here, seated on golden thrones.
The Temple of the Sun was the largest and most ornately decorated of its time. It had large stone walls that measured 140 m long by 135 m wide. The temple was adorned with a huge gold cornice, and the altars, doors, and statues were decorated with gold and silver plates, sometimes inlaid with precious stones. The main door, decorated with gold and silver motifs, opened onto a large sanctuary. Above the altar, a large gold disc, supposed to represent the Sun, sparkled.

The Qoricancha Site Museum in Cusco, Peru offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history of the Inca civilization. Located within the Santo Domingo Church complex, which was built on the foundations of the ancient Inca Temple of the Sun, this museum provides an interesting blend of Inca and colonial Spanish architecture.
Visitors appreciate the well-preserved Inca stonework, particularly the precise construction techniques visible in the remaining walls. The museum houses a collection of artifacts, including ceramics, textiles, and metalwork, which help illustrate the daily life and religious practices of the Inca people.
Many reviewers note that the site's historical significance adds depth to their visit. The juxtaposition of Inca and Spanish colonial elements offers a tangible representation of Peru's complex history.
However, some visitors mention that the museum's information panels could be more comprehensive and that guided tours (not included in the basic entry fee) are recommended for a fuller understanding of the site's importance. A few reviewers also comment on the relatively small size of the museum compared to the overall Santo Domingo complex.
Despite these minor drawbacks, most visitors find the Qoricancha Site Museum to be an educational and visually impressive experience. Its central location in Cusco makes it easily accessible and a popular stop for those interested in Inca history and architecture.
