The Pua Mau Place Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a large, 45-acre botanical garden and arboretum located in Kawaihae, on the western part of Hawaii Island. It is situated on the dry slopes of the Kohala Mountain Range and is open every day of the week. The garden was established in 1974 by botanist Dr. Virgil Place and focuses on the preservation of native woody plants, as well as many other important native species.
One of the highlights of the Pua Mau Place Arboretum and Botanical Garden is its stunning hibiscus maze, which features over 200 varieties of the flower. The garden also houses original sculptures made from red lava rocks and a magical circle of large stones. These stones are arranged in such a way that they indicate the solstices and equinoxes throughout the year, adding a unique touch to the garden's attractions.
